INTRODUCTION

The Rajasthan State Open School was set up in 2005 by the Government of Rajasthan as an autonomous organization under the Rajasthan Institute Registration Act 1958 and got Registration No. 741/Jaipur 2004-05, Dated : 21/03/2005. It provides educational opportunities to persons who wish to study further and qualify for a better tomorrow. The mission of RSOS is to provide school education to all with special concern for girls and women, rural youth, working men and women, SC & ST, differently abled persons and other disadvantaged persons who because of one or other reasons could not continue their education with the formal system. RSOS operates through a network of 472 Accredited Institutions (AI’s) commonly known as study centers in Rajasthan.

The RSOS, a registered society, offer courses through distance and open learning system and prepares students for secondary and senior secondary examinations. The RSOS conducts examinations upto class XII in collaboration with other agencies like the National Institutes of Open Schooling (NIOS).

The Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) has granted equivalency to its exams of X & XII classes, with the exams of other boards & universities of India like CBSE and NIOS etc.

FEATURES AND FLEXIBILITIES OF RSOS:

Age Limit:

There is no upper age limit for admission, however the minimum age for enrolments is 14 years for secondary courses and 15 years for Senior Secondary courses.

Choice of Subjects:

Subjects can be chosen for the subjects offered as per the criteria given in the prospectus.

Additional Subjects:

Students can also select one or two additional subjects either at the time of admission or during the course of study.

Flexible Scheme of Examination:

Public examinations are conducted by RSOS twice a year. The registered student can avail nine chances to appear in the public examinations over a period of five years of the course.

Credit Accumulation:

A student can choose to appear in one or more subjects in any examination and earn credit which will be accumulated till all five subjects required for certification are successfully completed within a period of five years of registration

Transfer of Credit:

A student can avail the facility of transfer of credit (TOC) to a maximum of two subjects passed from the selected board provided these subjects are also available in RSOS scheme of studies.

Validity of Admission:

A registered student’s admission is valid for five years. For public examination of secondary & Sr. Secondary level, he/she may take nine or fewer chances to successfully complete the course during this period.

Part Admission:

Under this scheme if a student is studying in a regular school or have already passed Secondary & Senior Secondary examination or any other higher courses from any recognized board or university, he/she may opt one or more subjects but not more than four subjects to update knowledge and educational qualifications. On passing, he/she will be issued only the mark-sheet and no other certificate will be issued.

Recognitions:

The Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) has granted equivalence to RSOS courses with those of other examinations of the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education ,Ajmer for the purpose of admission to higher courses of study at Indian university and getting employment in state’s as well as in the centre’s departments.

Self Instructional Material:

The RSOS provides specially designed printed self instructional material for 17 subjects at secondary level and for 21 subjects at senior secondary level. It is provided free of cost to the students through 472 AI centers situated all over Rajasthan.

Personal Contact Programme (PCP):To make the courses of RSOS equivalent to the formal education, a 15-days Personal Contact Program is conducted at all 472 AI centers in December and January every year for the first time newly registered students. The subject experts help and guide the students with regard to their difficulties.
